3G

3rd Generation of mobile networks, providing video calling, browsing and faster download speeds - up to 7 times faster than GPRS (General Packet Radio Service). Other background: 1st Generation was analogue, 2nd Generation was digital. 2.5G means GPRS.

ADSL

Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line. A data communications technology that enables faster data transmission over existing telephone lines. Also a broadband technology that delivers high data transfer speeds over existing telephone lines.

Analogue Lines

These are the original, basic, and still most common lines used by most households and some businesses.

Analogue Phones

These are basic telephones. These are routed through the PSTN, other wise known as POTS (Plain Old Telephone System), which is the basic telephone system that allow calls to be placed and received by routing them through the public switched network.

Application Performance

Application performance is stated for the purposes of measuring or monitoring usually comprehensive services from the software application itself.

Bandwidth

The amount of data passing through a connection at any given time. It is usually measured in bps (bits per second).

BlackBerry

A service for an email wireless solution – the network ‘pushes’ your email to your device – you don’t have to dial up to get at it.

Bluetooth

Enables you to wirelessly connect to mobile phones, computers, and other devices so you can send and receive information, from a distance of about a 1 to 3 meters away.

Call Recording

Call recording allows you to record telephone conversations for later playback and analysis. Conversations are recorded to a storage device or a server at the companies location or at the telephone service provider.

Carrier Pre-Select

It is the process where by a telephone subscriber whose telephone line is maintained by one company can choose to have some of their calls automatically routed across a different telephone company's network without needing to enter a special code or special equipment.
